OAKWOOD - This week 8th grade students from West Hall Middle School shared their knowledge of CPR and how to help a choking victim with 5th graders at Flowery Branch Elementary School and Oakwood Elementary School.
The rising 9th graders received their American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR certification in WHMS's Health Care Science class and wanted to demonstrate these life-saving skills to younger students.
Meanwhile, West Hall Middle School's Health Care Science program is expanding through the formation of the Academy for Medical Sciences at West Hall for grades 6 through 8.

Beginning in the fall of 2013 this year-long course provides an extensive foundation in human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology. The Academy of Medical Sciences propels students to advanced learning by enrollment in the Carnegie unit course Intro to Healthcare Science during the 8th grade year. Academy students will enter high school with 1 credit hour towards high school graduation. The Academy of Medical Science continues through the high school experience. This enables the student to complete the Health Care Science Pathway by their end of the sophomore year.
