Officer involved in McDonald's dispute has certification suspended

CUMMING - The Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council will suspend certification for a police officer accused of pulling a gun on a customer in a McDonalds drive-thru.

Forsyth County sheriff's spokesman Courtney Spriggs said 48-year-old DeKalb County police Sgt. Scott Biumi had been charged with aggravated assault after authorities said he pointed a gun at a man during an argument on April 9.

Peace Officer Standards and Training Council Executive Director Ken Vance says Biumi's certification will be suspended until after the case goes to court.

Vance says the suspension means Biumi can't seek employment with another law enforcement agency. He added the organization will investigate the incident and consider revoking Biumi's certification.

Biumi, of Cumming, posted $22,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court May 23.
