CUMMING - The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) says work is drawing to a close on the reconstruction of the intersection of State Route 9, Mary Alice Park Road, Bald Ridge Marina Road and Meadow Drive.
Traffic at the intersection is expected to be greatly affected Tuesday as some of the changes are finalized. GDOT is asking motorists to "please" avid the intersection until evening that day when work is complete and a new signal is operational.
"Multiple crews will be working Tuesday on this project. Condensing the work into one day will allow us to cause the least disruption to traffic. Please avoid the area Tuesday if you can. Traffic will flow more efficiently and the overall operation of the area will be greatly improved once these changes are complete. Please be patient Tuesday through this last big push," explained DOT District Construction Engineer Harold Mull.
Crews will arrive and be ready to start work shortly after daylight Tuesday. A portion of Mary Alice Park Road at Bald Ridge Road will be closed for crews to remove temporary asphalt and tie the roads together permanently. The signal will become operational after the road work is complete Tuesday evening.
After these changes, the only remaining work is to finish the right turn lane from SR 9 to Meadow Drive, pave the top layer of asphalt on the entire project and install the permanent striping.
The $1.4 million project has a contract completion date of June 30.
