GAINESVILLE - Carroll Daniel Construction Company has been awarded a contract to build what will be Georgia's largest high school.
The Gwinnett County Board of Education voted Thursday meeting to award the 664,262-square-foot project to the Gainesville-based Construction Management and General Contracting firm.
The new facility will be located on Old Norcross Road in Lawrenceville, and is projected to cost $63.5 million dollars. It will be funded in part by Gwinnett County's 2011 SPLOST IV and will relieve pressure from growth at Berkmar and Central Gwinnett high schools.
The state Department of Education confirms that it will be the state's largest high school.
Designed by the Atlanta Architectural firm of Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart, Stewart & Associates, Inc., the new facility is designed to house 11,706 students and staff, and is scheduled to be completed by July 2015. The building will include 120 classrooms, laboratory space, a competition gym and practice gym and a performing arts center. Improvements to the 71-acre site include a football and soccer field, track, baseball field, softball field, a field house, concessions and press box, home and visitor's stands and practice fields.
Carroll Daniel President Brian Daniel said, "We have been working in Gwinnett County almost 40 years, and almost continuously for the last 15 years. They have been a great partner for us, and our group is excited to have the opportunity to build the largest school in the State for them."
