OAKWOOD -- After 33 years of coaching -- the last seven at West Hall High -- Lynn Jarrett announced on Thursday that she is retiring.
"We're blessed to have had her here, and she'll always be a Spartan," West Hall athletic director Scott Justus said. "We're going to miss her; she's been a pillar here."
Jarrett's distinguished career encompassed stints with several college and high school programs, including a set of stellar teams with North Georgia that featured a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics runner-up finish and 27-4 record in 1987. Jarrett also coached at Tennessee-Wesleyan from 1980-82 and at Armstrong Atlantic, in Savannah, from 1996-2000.
Jarrett graduated from East Hall in 1975 and is a member of both the Northeast Georgia Sports Hall of Fame and the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.
"She's always put others first but she's getting to the point where she's ready to start thinking more about herself," Justus said. "At the same time she told our girls that she'll still be there for them and if they need her, they have her phone number."
West Hall will begin an immediate search for a new coach, though no timeline is currently in place.
"We're going to open it up now and start taking applications," Justus said.
