SUGAR HILL - A Gwinnett County school resource officer continues to recover from injuries he received when he was hit by a vehicle in front of Lanier High School last month.
As he recovers, fellow officers are planning a fundraiser to help Rolando Jimenez with expenses while he's out of work, since he is not paid at 100% of his salary while he undergoes rehabilitation.
"He's doing well, he's got a long road to recovery," said Suwanee Police Officer Rob McCoy, one of the organizers of a Friday benefit basketball game for Jimenez.
"He's in physical therapy, and it's just going to take him some time to get better."
The March 15 game pits Suwanee police officers against faculty and staff from schools in the Lanier schools cluster, according to McCoy.
Jimenez has served as a Gwinnett County school resource officer for 11 years, and he has been the SRO for Lanier High School since it opened in 2011.
Jimenez was on duty in front of Lanier High School the morning of February 13 when he was struck by a vehicle that failed to stop at his signal. (See link to previous story.)
