CHESTNUT MOUNTAIN -- As overwhelming favorites coming into the 2013 Hall County Championships, about the only thing that could slow down the Gainesville boys and girls golf teams Monday was Mother Nature.
Rain and wind forced the suspension of play Monday about two-thirds of the way through the first round at Royal Lakes Country Club.
Play will resume Tuesday at 3:35 p.m. at Royal Lakes with players starting from where they marked their balls when play was suspended at around 5:30 p.m. Monday. They will start the second round immediately following the completion of the first round.
No scores had been posted before play was suspended but several coaches said the conditions were a factor.
"It was tough out there but I think a few players were able to post some decent scores," Gainesville girls coach Clay McDonald said.
Johnson boys coach Jeff Steele said he didn't know if the weather conditions were a positive or a negative for his team.
"It's hard to know in conditions like that," he said. "But I can't imagine anyone shooting low in that."
The Gainesville boys and girls teams are looking to defend their 2012 team titles.
