CLARKESVILLE - The Northeast Georgia Mountain Beekeepers Association is sponsoring a hands on course for individuals who would like to learn the craft of keeping bees.
This one-day program will be in two sessions on March 23.
The morning session will begin at 8:30 at the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center, Clarkesville, and will include honey bee biology, basic equipment requirements, colony management, honey production, pollination, and the use of other hive products.
The afternoon session will be held in Clarkesville, at the bee yard of Carl Webb where actual hands-on experiences will be provided by some of the bee club's experienced and highly skillful beekeepers. Topics will include: hive manipulation, spring management, queen rearing, making splits, honey harvesting and more.
Registration is limited and includes a one-year membership in the local beekeeping club, First Lessons in Beekeeping book and lunch. Cost is $35 for individual and $15 for each additional family member.
The Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center is located at 120 Paul Franklin Road in Clarkesville. On-site registration begins at 8:00; class starts at 8:30. This short course is a great first step in becoming a beekeeper. For more information or to pre-register, call Carl or Virginia Webb @ 706-754-7062.
