JEFFERSON - More than 200 volunteers from Galilee Christian Church, led by Minister Nick Vipperman, will be heading out into Jackson County Saturday morning in a massive one-day service project.
These volunteers will be teaming up to tackle projects large and small across the county in an effort to serve the people of Jackson County. Galilee Christian Church and the "Serve the City" project's goal is to reach out and impact the people of Jackson County "in a powerful way."
Several volunteer teams will serve at many of the Jefferson City Schools and Jackson County Schools by helping take care of long-needed lawn maintenance, window washing, trash pick-up, and flower planting jobs.
Other teams will be located in the historic city center focused on beautification of green-spaces such as the Historic Jackson County Courthouse and Crawford W. Long Museum where teams will be preparing flower beds for the spring season, spreading mulch, pruning trees and washing windows. One team was selected to begin the work of planting the new garden at the museum with plants reminiscent of those Dr. Long would have used in his practice.
Other teams will be volunteering at the Boys & Girls Club of Jackson County, the Senior Center, and Hurricane Shoals Park in Maysville. All will be receiving landscape beautification and trash pick-up service.
One special group will be visiting elderly shut-ins with music and song.
