GAINESVILLE -- The Chestatee boys tennis team opened its Region 8A-AAAA subregion play with a 4-1 loss to Madison County Thursday.
Madison County, which advanced to the state Sweet 16 last season, swept the singles to earn the victory. The Raiders' Trey Morris beat Chestatee's Jonathan Cook 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 while Ben Strickland beat Jeremiah Reed 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Madison County's Koti Nguyen held off Teddy Werner 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3.
In doubles, the Raiders' No. 2 team of Adam Sartain and Hank Sartain knocked off Reed Johnson and Tyler Burgess 6-2, 6-2.
Chestatee's lone win came in No. 1 doubles match as undefeated Blaine Brown and Juan Carrion topped Tyler Terrell and Zach Peneguy 7-6(7-2), 6-2.
