Soldier killed in shooting on bike path in Atlanta

ATLANTA (AP) Atlanta police say that a U.S. Army soldier has died after he and another man were shot during an apparent robbery while walking on an Atlanta bike trail.

Twenty one-year-old Xavier Arnold died at Grady Memorial Hospital after being shot Thursday night in the Kirkwood neighborhood of northeast Atlanta.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Channel 2 Action News report that Arnold was shot in the head. A second male victim was shot in the leg.

Police say the men were walking along the bike trail with Arnold's girlfriend when two men confronted them and tried to pick a fight.

Police are still searching for the suspects after an unsuccessful air and ground hunt.

Investigators believe robbery was the motive.
