D'Angola kicks North Gwinnett into quarterfinals

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Michael D'Angola booted a 27-yard field goal with 11 seconds left to lift North Gwinnett to a wild 34-32 victory over Archer Friday in the second round of the Class AAAAAA playoffs.

It was a back-and-forth affair as the Bulldogs (11-1) trailed 20-7 early but then scored 24 unanswered points to take a 31-20 lead in the third quarter. But Archer (11-1) would rally with a pair of touchdowns to retake the lead, 32-31, late in the fourth quarter.

Hayden Sphire had a big for North Gwinnett going 17-for-29 passing for 220 yards and two touchdowns. Caleb Scott was Sphire's favorite target catching nine passes for 121 and two touchdowns (15 and 22 yards).

C.J. Leggett had 163 yards rushing on 23 carries, including a 38-yard touchdown run.

Daniel Imatorbhebhe caught a touchdown pass from Dante Sawyer.

Angola also drilled a 30-yard field for North Gwinnett.

The Bulldogs next will hit the road once again to take on Hillgrove in the quarterfinals.
