BUFORD -- Class AAA No. 1-rankked Buford exploded for 56 points in the second and third quarters to pull away for a 70-6 win over East Hall Friday in Region 7-AAA action.
The Wolves (9-0, 6-0 Region 7-AAA) led just 7- after the first quarter but scored 28 points in the second quarter to take a 35-0 lead into halftime. They added 28 more points in the third quarter to blow the game open.
Evyn Cooper had the eye-popping stat carrying the ball just twice but scoring both times and finishing with 129 yards.
Josh Thomas opened the scoring with a 5-yard TD run in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Wolves defense contributed with a 28-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown. Montgomery VanGorder connected with David Curry on a 14-yard TD pass and then Donte Gordon and Jordan Pollatte added touchdown runs before halftime.
In the third quarter, Thomas Wilson scored on a 2-yard run, Tra Neal returned an interception 21-yard for a touchdown, Cooper scored on a 63-yard run, and Xavior gant added a 19-yard TD run for a 63-0 lead.
Cooper would add a 66-yard TD run on the first possession of the fourthquarter.
east hall finally got on the board when Devin Watson connected with Milton Whelchel on a 39-yard TD pass late in the game.
Buford can clinch the top spot in Region 7-AAA will a win over North Hall next week. The Trojans can create a three-way tie if they can pull off the upset at The brickyard.
