Boy wounded by gunfire called innocent bystander

ATLANTA (AP) -- An 11-year-old boy is hospitalized after he was shot during a gun battle in southwest Atlanta.<br /> <br /> Atlanta police Officer John Chafee says the child was shot in the shoulder around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday on Coleman Street. The boy was in stable condition Wednesday night.<br /> <br /> Investigators say they believe the child was an innocent bystander and wounded as two groups of people exchanged gunfire in the street.<br /> <br /> The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that after the child was shot, his brother carried him a few houses down the street to his home, where a family member called 911. The child was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.<br /> <br /> Chafee tells WSB-TV that witnesses reported the suspects may have fled on bicycles.
