Elberton man charged in September murder

ELBERTON - An Elberton man arrested on a parole violation after being released from Doctors Hospital in Augusta Tuesday night now faces murder charges.

Once he arrived at the Elbert County Detention Center, Jessie George Simpson, 54, of Oglesby Boulevard in Elberton was served with arrest warrants for murder, aggravated assault and armed robbery.

Simpson is charged in the death of Rodney L. McDuffie at 1048 Porter Drive, which was reported around 4:30 p.m. Sept. 6.

The State Parole Board has placed a hold on Simpson.

Simpson was released on parole from the Macon Male Transitional Center on March 5. He had been incarcerated since Aug. 28, 2003, Georgia Department of Corrections records show.

Prior incarcerations were from Feb. 8, 2000 to Jan. 28, 2003; and from March 1, 1991 to Aug. 10, 1998, DOC records show.

Simpson has numerous convictions, including a 20-year sentence for an armed robbery that occurred on Sept. 13, 1990, as well as numerous three-, five- and 10-year sentences for forgeries that occurred in Elbert County in November and December 1999, according to DOC records.
