GAINESVILLE - Rape Response celebrated its 25th anniversary Monday night at First Baptist Church on Green Street - and singled out its founder, Wendy Glasbrenner, for special recognition.

Also on hand for the celebration were two past executive directors of Rape Response - Elaine Gerke and Terri Strayhorn, who are still supportive of and involved in the program. Gerke served for three years and Strayhorn, 19.

"Wendy and those two executive directors built quite a legacy and I am privileged to be here today and have their continued support and involvement," current Executive Director Jeanne Buffington said. "We currently have 36 volunteers and two full-time and two part-time staff. All, great women, too."

Buffington added that the volunteers "are critical to our work. We could not provide 24/7 services with them. They are lifeline to survivors as well as Rape Response staff."
