ATLANTA - LeadingAge Georgia recently honored a Forsyth County Senior Services Volunteer during the Profiles of Positive Aging Image Awards and Gala Luncheon at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Atlanta.

Florence Korom was one of the 17 seniors from throughout Georgia who were honored.

The recipients were recognized for making a difference and exemplifying positive aging. Korom has volunteered with Forsyth County Senior Services' Alzheimer's Respite Program, also known as the Sunshine Club, for 15 years and has also volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program.

Forsyth County Senior Services nominated Korom as a result of the inspiration she has provided other Sunshine Club volunteers and participants through her experienced leadership and assistance to the program staff. Korom makes every effort to support the clients in their participation and engages the clients to do as much as they can do for themselves.

When nominated for the recognition, she was required to provide a life quote.

"As we travel through life," she said, "true happiness can only be achieved by helping others."

Forsyth County Senior Services said Korom consistently volunteers six or seven hours a day for four days every week.

"This is a great honor for Ms. Korom and is very well deserved," said Director of Forsyth County Senior Services Michael Bohn. "We are always appreciative of the generous amounts of time contributed by our volunteers every week. The staff and clients appreciate the great work Ms. Korom has done in order to enrich the lives of the members of the Sunshine Club."
