WASHINGTON -- An injury to quarterback Evan Shirreffs proved too much to overcome for Jefferson Friday night as the Dragons fell to Washington-Wilkes 21-14 in a battle of Region 8-AA titans.
With the game tied at 7 in the second quarter, Shirreffs would suffer a thumb injury and not return.
The fifth-ranked Tigers would take advantage scoring two third quaryer touchdowns to run out to a 21-7 lead.
The seventh-ranked Dragons would not score again until a 12-yard touchdown run by T.J. Skelton in the fourth quarter. Jefferson would not be able to tie the game.
Washington-Wilkes scored first in the first quarter to grab a 7-0 lead. Jefferson would tie the game in the second quarter on a 5-yard TD run by Tristan Jackson.
Shirreffs would finish 4-of-10 passing for just 31 yards for Jefferson. Jackson had 85 yards rushing for the Dragons.
