FLOWERY BRANCH -- The Flowery Branch girls softball team was swept out in the first round of the Region 8-AAAAA tournament for the second straight season Wednesday.
The fourth-seeded Lady Falcons lost 5-4 and 9-0 to fifth-seeded Winder-Barrow in a doubleheader. The best-of-three series win moves Winder-Barrow into the Class AAAAA state tournament.
Winder-Barrow had a grand slam in Game 1 to grab the lead and then hung on after a late Flowery Branch rally. The Lady Bulldoggs exploded for six runs in the second inning and never looked back.
Flowery Branch ended its season at 17-11.
Winder-Barrow moves on to play top-seeded Heritage, Conyers on Monday in the region tournament.
