Website created for tips at state youth detention centers

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Juvenile says a new website has been created to report suspicious activities at the state's youth detention center and court-services offices.

The Savannah Morning News reports that anonymous tips are accepted at www.djj.state.ga.us . The agency promises that the names of sources will be kept confidential.

Juvenile Justice Commissioner L. Gale Buckner says the online tip form is available to employees and the public. Buckner is making surprise inspections of facilities and court-services offices.

Agency spokesman Jim Shuler says the reforms aren't directly related to problems at the department's detention center in Augusta, when Bucker assumed her post last fall. Eleven employees, including the director, were fired, had quit or demoted following the investigation of a teen who died at the facility.
