Banks Co. GOP hosting political forum Saturday

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
HOMER - People in Banks County will get a chance Saturday to hear from the Republican candidates involved in the Aug. 21 primary runoffs in the county.

The Banks County Republican Party is hosting a political forum in the county annex building in Homer at 10:00, according to spokesman Fred Wendt.

Wendt says "our organization has received positive confirmations from most of (the) candidates" who will be on the ballot.

The offices and the candidates are:

Banks County Sheriff: Carlton Speed & Clint McCoy

Banks County Commission Chair: Jimmy Hooper & Ernest Rogers

State Representative District 28: Dan Gasaway & Jon Heffer

U.S. Representative District 9: Martha Zoller & Doug Collins

"As you already know," Wendt added, "the winners for these offices will essentially be decided by this one runoff election..." except for the Collins-Zoller race. Democrat Jody Cooley will take on the runoff winner in the November General Election. The candidates for the other offices face no Democratic opposition.
