LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Georgia All-American Keith Mitchell shot his second-straight 68 to reach 8-under and surge into the lead after two rounds of the 106th Southern Amateur.
Mitchell, a junior for the Bulldogs, has played the first two rounds of the tournament at Chenal Country Club with clubs borrowed from several Georgia teammates after his were stolen two weeks ago.
North Carolina State senior Hunter Howell and Brad Schneider of Valrico, Fla., were two shots back of Mitchell at 6 under each Thursday. Howell had five-straight birdies Thursday on his way to a 67, the low round of the day.
World No. 1 amateur Bobby Wyatt of Mobile, Ala., was 5 under with one hole remaining. Wyatt is among a handful of players who didn't finish due to two weather delays.
