GAINESVILLE - The Rotary Club of Gainesville celebrated its annual "changing of the guard" recently, as Bonnie Oliver assumed the club's presidency for 2012-2013. Oliver is a Superior Court judge in the Gainesville-based Northeastern Judicial Circuit.
Dr. Martha Nesbitt, retired president of Gainesville State College, is the club's outgoing president. Under her leadership, the Rotary Club of Gainesville was named the district's Club of the Year in its membership category for the second year in a row. In the past year, the club engaged in many service projects, including continuance of building wheelchair ramps for community members and various support initiatives for area schools, such as book donations and high school Interact clubs.
Other officers for the coming year are Tony Herdener, vice president, Systems & Finance and CFO of Northeast Georgia Health System, who is the president-elect; Doug Langman, owner of the TRS Staffing franchise in Gainesville, who is the secretary; and Jeanne Hanlin, operations manager of Watkins Chiropractic, who is the treasurer.
Other members assuming and continuing leadership positions are Kevin Wetzel, membership director; Andy Leavitt, public relations director; Mary Watkins, director of service projects; Lee Highsmith, director of The Rotary Foundation; Mike Giles, director for club administration; and Will Schofield, director of the New Generations initiative. Burton Brown will begin service as sergeant-at-arms and Rick Boyd will continue as board advisor.
Margie Eddy-Forbes is the new Rotary district governor, and Rick Boyd will continue his role as assistant district governor.
