Elections 2012: Martha Zoller

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
NAME:  Martha Zoller

POLITICAL PARTY AFFILIATION: Republican

OCCUPATION: Former conservative radio talk show host, political commentator and analyst, writer

1) Why are you running for this office?

I am running to be north Georgia's conservative voice in Congress! Washington is broken and the American Dream is under siege.  Congressman Paul Broun and Tom Graves need conservative reinforcements in Congress that will fight with them to reduce spending, lower taxes, cut regulations, and return government to the people.

2) Is the first time you have run for political office?  (If "no," please explain.)

Yes.

3) What qualifications for the office do you bring to the campaign?

My experience in the corporate world coupled with nearly 22 years managing my husband's medical practice qualifies me for this race.  Furthermore, after 16 years on the radio listening to my friends and neighbors in north Georgia, I am uniquely equipped to be the voice of Georgia's 9th Congressional District in Washington.

4) What do you see as the biggest concern/issue facing the country?

A. We need to end reckless, out of control spending in Washington.
B. We need to repeal burdensome, anti-business, anti-growth regulations like ObamaCare, Dodd-Frank, and Sarbanes-Oxley.
C. We need to develop an "all of the above" energy policy that enhances domestic energy production.
D. We need to replace the U.S. Tax Code with the FairTax.

5) What do you see as the biggest concern/issue facing the 9th District?

Jobs.  Washington's big spending, big tax, big debt agenda has crippled the U.S. economy, especially here in north Georgia.  Job creators are over-taxed, over-litigated, and over-regulated and are finding it harder and harder to grow their businesses and hire new workers.  In the wake of the housing bubble, many business owners are struggling to make ends meet.  Others trudged through the rough economy but are now afraid to expand because of looming regulations.  We need to reign in government spending and get the government out of the way!  Only then, will people in north Georgia have the ability to get back on their feet and start again.

6) What more do you think the federal government can do to end the dispute over water involving Georgia, Alabama, and Florida? (EDITOR'S NOTE: This question was asked and it was answered prior to the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling on the dispute.)

A.  Members of the Georgia Delegation should work with the Army Corp of Engineers to raise the full pool level of Lake Lanier by 2 feet.
B.  According to Sen. Johnny Isakson, there are 26 states with similar water issues to Georgia.  Members of Congress from applicable states should work together to create a coherent plan that would address pressing water issues.
C.  We need to pass legislation that protects downstream reservoirs during times of heavy rain and drought or reduced rainfall.

7) How far would you be willing to go in putting politics aside and compromising, for the good of the country, with the opposition party?

Smart, conservative policies that are Constitutional, moral, affordable, and good for America will always trump political party.  I am going to Washington to be the voice of north Georgia and no matter what
