GAINESVILLE - It's a first for a hospital in Georgia: the Northeast Georgia Medical Center's new cancer rehabilitation program. It's called STAR, for Suvivorship, Training and Rehab.
The launch of the new program was celebrated at noon Thursday at the hospital.
Northeast Georgia Medical Center officials say the goal is to help cancer patients function "at the highest possible level."
On hand at the ceremony were the 19 members of the hospital's cancer rehab team, which includes oncologists, therapists and others.
The services will be offered in Gainesville, Braselton, Cleveland and Dawsonville.
Northeast Georgia is the first hospital in the state to offer the STAR program.*
The Longstreet Clinic, in conjunction with Pro Therapy, launched the STAR Program in January.
