Dawson fire investigators work to find cause of blaze

By B.J. Williams
DAWSONVILLE - Dawson County and Forsyth County firefighters spent about four hours on the scene of a fire on Highway 53 just west of Georgia 400 Tuesday morning.

Dawson County Fire Department Battalion Chief Milton Keller said crews were called the scene around 2:20 a.m. Tuesday.

The burning building was abandoned, according to Keller.

"It was an older, wood-framed building that sits probably about 20 yards off Highway 53 just west of the Enota River crossing," he said. "All four walls are still standing, but the interior is completely gutted."

Keller said about 20 firefighters from Dawsoon County responded to the scene. In addition, Forsyth County's fire department provided a ladder truck to fight the blaze in the 2000-square-foot structure.

At this point, investigators are unsure of the cause of the fire, according to Keller.

He said all firefighters remained safe during the incident.
