GAINESVILLE - A Cornelia woman remains in the Hall County Detention Center on explosives and drug charges following an initial appearance in federal court in Gainesville Thursday afternoon.

Celia A. Savage is named in a criminal complaint filed by an agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

The formal charges listed in the criminal complaint state that Savage was in possession of a firearm or destructive device not registered to her and was in possession of a firearm while being an unlawful user of a controlled substance.

Savage's home on Garrison Road in Cornelia was the object of a search Wednesday afternoon, according to the criminal complaint.

As a result of the search warrant, authorities found two pipe bombs, a number of firearms -including a Taurus .454 calibre revolver- suspected illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia.

The complaint said that two agents, one with ATF and the other with the FBI, questioned Savage and she told them that manufacturing and detonating explosive devices for recreation was her "hobby."

Savage told U.S. district Court Judge Susan Cole that she could not afford to hire an attorney, so Cole Thursday assigned a public defender to Savage. That attorney, Kendall Silas, asked for a continuance so that he could further review the case against his client.

Cole granted the request, and she set a preliminary and detention hearing for Savage at 10:00 a.m. Friday in U.S. District Court in Gainesville.
