Weekend drowning victim incorrectly identified

By B.J. Williams
BLAIRSVILLE - Union County authorities are saying that a weekend drowning victim on Lake Nottely was initially misidentified.

A Union County sheriff's department spokesman said the victim's name is Jamie Ian Worley. He was identified at the scene as Jamie Solotoz, according to the spokesman, but authorities obtained the correct name after contacting the victim's mother.

The spokesman said it is believed Worley slipped off of an inner tube into the water around 4:30 Saturday afternoon. He said the teen was at the lake celebrating a birthday with friends and the drowning was accidental.

Divers found his body in about 50-feet of water, according to the sheriff's department.

The teen was one of two drowning victims in North Georgia over the Memorial Day holiday. Another man died on Lake Allatoona in Cherokee County Sunday. He was identified by authorities as Rigoberto Lara Hernandez.
