Gunter and George appointed to Enotah judgeships

By From WRWH
ATLANTA - Governor Nathan Deal Friday morning appointed Raymond George of Cleveland and Stan Gunter of Blairsville to Superior Court judgeships in the Enotah Judicial Circuit.

The appointments become effective upon their swearing-in, which is scheduled for June 7th. George and Gunter will fill the vacancies of David E. Barrett and Lynn Akeley-Alderman, who resigned in March.

George practices law in Dahlonega and has more than 20 years of trial experience, having also served as the Chief Assistant District Attorney in the Northeastern Judicial Circuit. He commented shortly after the announcement that he is honored by the confidence the governor has put in him by appointing him to the position. "I look forward to working with Judge Miller and Gunter," George said.

Gunter has served as executive director of the Prosecuting Attorneys' Council since 2011. He is a native of northeast Georgia and served as the district attorney in the Enotah Judicial Circuit, which includes Union, Towns, White and Lumpkin counties, for 12 years.

Gunter also said he appreciated the confidence the governor placed in him and said he will be meeting with Judge Miller, the only presiding judge in the circuit, in the next few days to discuss the circuit activities. The appointment came on Gunter's birthday.

"This is quite a birthday present."
