CUMMING - An 18-year-old Forsyth County woman faces charges in connection with the death of a long-time county employee in a Monday afternoon traffic accident.

Forsyth County Sheriff's Capt. Tim House said John Lester Padgett, 50, of Jasper was traveling on his 1984 Honda VF1100 on Old Federal Road in North Forsyth County around 3:49 p.m. when a 2008 Mazda being driven by Kaley Ashton Quarles, 18, of Cumming, came over a hill in a curve on the wrong side of the road and struck Padgett head on.

House said Padgett was pronounced dead at the scene.

Padgett was the Manager of Fleet Services for the Forsyth County government and had been employed with Forsyth County for 21 years.

Quarles has been charged with vehicular homicide in the second degree and driving on the wrong side of the road. She was treated at the scene for superficial injuries and transported to the Forsyth County Detention Center. She was later released on a $2,805 bond.

House said Quarles is scheduled to appear in State Court on August 3.
