UNDATED - Authorities re-opened Buford Dam Road Thursday afternoon, following a day-long ordeal involving a busted treated wastwater line.
Forsyth County deputies had been directing traffic since about 5:00 a.m. off the road at Nuckolls and Sanders Roads.
"We were fortunate in that we were able to get the news out early this (Thursday) morning by using our Facebook page as well as media outlets," Forsyth County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Karleen Chalker said.
She said motorists seemed to handle the detours well.
Utilities crews spent hours dealing with the treated wastewater line and ensuing sinkhole.
"It's treated sewage that empties into the lake. There is no environmental issue going on," Chalker said during the closure.
Chalker confirmed the road had re-opened just before 3:00 p.m. Thursday.
