Piedmont summer theatre headlines three comedies

By Staff
DEMOREST - North Georgia Theatre at Piedmont College returns for a second season filled with summer comedies, beginning with "I Do, I Do!" at the Swanson Center in Demorest.

"North Georgia Theatre is a professional repertory theatre company at Piedmont that brings together actors, directors, and designers from across the Southeast to produce theatre in the northeast Georgia mountains," said Bill Gabelhausen, chair of the college's Department of Theatre.

"I Do, I Do!" is a two-character musical that spans 50 years, from 1895 to 1945, focusing on the ups and downs experienced by Agnes and Michael Snow throughout their marriage. The play originally opened on Broadway in 1966 with Mary Martin and Robert Preston, before becoming a favorite of regional theatres across the U.S.

Shows are scheduled for 7:30 p.m., May 24-26 and May 31-June 2; and matinees at 2 p.m., May 27 and June 3.

The season will also include "The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged)," an irreverent, fast-paced romp through the Bard's plays that will run June 7-10 and June 14-17. The final show of the summer will be "Nunsense," the hilarious story of the Little Sisters of Hoboken, June 21-24 and June 28-July1.
