ATHENS -- Georgia gymnastics coach Jay Clark has resigned after falling short of the national championship standard set by his predecessor and former boss, Suzanne Yoculan.
Georgia won a record 10 NCAA team championships, including five straight from 2005-09, with Yoculan as coach and Clark as a top assistant. After Yoculan retired following the 2009 season and Clark was named her successor, the Gym Dogs have missed making the Super Six in the NCAA championships in three straight years, including an 11th-place finish in this year's event in Duluth, Ga.
Clark was an assistant on the staff for 17 years.
Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity said Friday he has accepted Clark's resignation and said he would begin the search for "the best possible head coach to lead our program."
