LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett County police officers shot and killed a man Thursday night they describe as suicidal and armed with a deer rifle.
Gwinnett Police Cpl. Jake Smith said authorities were called to the man's home off Five Forks Trickum Road around 6:30 p.m., responding to reports of a suicide attempt.
Smith said officers found 32-year-old James Clark outside the home with the rifle.
Officers negotiated with Clark for a short time before two officers fired, killing him.
Clark's family members told television media that he did not have a deer rifle, but a BB gun. Clark's brother and father were arrested and the scene on charges of disorderly conduct.
The two officers involved have been placed on routine administrative leave while the investigation is underway.
