New engineering scholarship established at NGTC

By Staff
CLARKESVILLE - The North Georgia Technical College Foundation (NGTCF) has received a donation to begin the John Dillon Engineering Scholarship at the college.

The Engineering Degree is new to NGTC and is offered through an articulation agreement with Southern Polytechnic University in Marietta.

The initial scholarship will be awarded for the 2012 Fall Semester.

To be eligible for the scholarship a student must be enrolled in the program, have a demonstrated financial need, provide an essay outlining need and career goals and be recommended by an instructor or employer. Applications are available at the Foundation Office or online and are due on the same date as the regular Foundation Scholarships. The maximum amount awarded will be $375 per semester.

Dillon taught Mechanical Technology at NGTC for several years before becoming the Night and Industrial Coordinator for the college until his retirement. In addition to his official duties, he was a volunteer swimming instructor at the college for many years for Head Start and NGTC college students, special populations, and the general public.

Anyone wishing to make a tax deductible donation for this or other scholarships may send a check to: NGTC Foundation, P.O. Box 65, Clarkesville, Georgia 30523.

Last year the foundation awarded over 100 scholarships to students with financial need. For more information, call 706-654-7714 or email at [email protected].
