CLEVELAND - White County Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to hire Michael J. Melton as the new county manager.
According to a press release from the county, Melton's contract includes a total compensation package of $86,000 - $75,000 base salary, $6,000 vehicle allowance and $5,000 health insurance allowance.
Board Chairman Travis Turner said, "We look forward to the knowledge and experience Michael brings to White County and to he and his wife becoming part of our community."
Melton most recently worked as the city manager in Richmond Hill, Ga.
He is expected to begin his new job in early May, according to commissioners.
White County has been searching for a new county manager since late November when Carol Jackson resigned to take a position with the state Department of Juvenile Justice. Former County Manager Jean Welborn filled the role in an interim position.
