DAWSONVILLE - Dawson County Sheriff Billy Carlisle has formally announced his intentions to run for re-election.
A certified officer since 1988, the 50-year-old Carlisle was first elected sheriff in 1996, when he replaced Randy Chester upon Chester's retirement.
"When I was first elected, this was a very small department, so small that we had deputies riding together because we didn't have enough cars, and the equipment they needed they bought themselves," Carlisle said in a press release. "As this county has grown, our department has also grown to support the growth."
This will be Carlisle's fifth run for the sheriff's position.
