By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
LAWRENCEVILLE - The funeral will be held Saturday for a longtime, former Gwinnett County Clerk of Court.

Odus Millard Peevy, who served in the position from 1961 to 1984, died Thursday at his home in Buford following an extended illness. Before becoming court clerk, Peevy owned and operated a barber shop from 1947 until 1960. He was 87.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3:00 at the First Baptist Church, Buford.

In 2008, Peevy was recognized by the American Legion Post #127 in Buford for 60 years of continuous membership. In 1964, while serving as Commander of Post #127, he spear-headed a reorganization and expansion of the Little League and Dixie League Baseball programs by adding new baseball fields, concession stands, parking lots and lights on 18 acres of American Legion property.

Peevy was a life long Democrat and served on the Gwinnett County Democratic Executive Committee for eight years. He was also a Charter member of the Buford Lions Club, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Buford; and for a period of time, a fireman with the Buford Volunteer Fire Department.

In 1995 the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce recognized him with its "Public Service Award." In 1981 Peevy was named "Boss of The Year" by the Gwinnett County Legal Secretaries Association. He also served on the Counsel of Superior Court Clerks, for the 9th District of Georgia.
