OAKWOOD - The City of Oakwood is one step closer to bringing all of Tanners Creek Business Park into the city limits.
City manager Stan Brown said Oakwood city council members unanimously approved the annexation of three undeveloped pieces of property in the Tanners Creek Business Park area at a Monday night meeting.
"One of the main provisions here is to guarantee that we'll have sewer service for those properties," said Brown. "That's critical to the development of industry and business here."
Total acreage for these latest annexations is 65-acres, according to Brown. The properties included in the proposed annexation are owned by Chattahoochee Parks, Inc, Tanners Creek Development and Tanners Creek Owners Association.
Brown said this latest move enhances the business partnership between the city of Oakwood and Tanners Creek Business Park.
"We can market the property together and we think it's going to be a win-win both for the business park and for the city."
Brown said the council will hold a public hearing on the annexation plan before making a final vote in April.
CITY EXTENDS AGREEMENT WITH YMCA
With the success of a pilot parks and recreation program operated by the YMCA, the Oakwood City Council approved a service agreement with the "Y" for the remainder of 2012.
Under the agreement, the YMCA will continue to organize and staff fitness classes for Oakwood. Those classes are held in two city community buildings.
Brown said the service agreement will be reviewed on an annual basis.
