Bears split double-header with Point University

CLEVELAND -- The Truett-McConnell College Baseball team returned to action on Wednesday and grabbed sweep of Point University 9-3 and 3-0 in Cleveland.

The Bears were looking to carry over the momentum they gained over the weekend in Florida and did just that in the home contests.

Looking for their fifth win in a row the Bears turned to freshman Chris Stevens (a 2011 North Hall High School graduate) in game one of the double header. Stevens would not disappoint throwing five solid innings (5IP, 4H, 1R, 0ER, 1BB, 4K's) to help lead the Bears to a 9-3 victory in game one. The Bears broke the game open in the 3rd inning as they sent 11 men to the plate and scored seven times. The big blow of the inning was a bases clearing 3 rbi double off the bat of sophomore shortstop Hayden Fleming. Leading the Bears offense in game one was Ross Roberts who went 2-4 with a double. With the win Stevens improved his record on the season to 2-0.

In game two the Bears turned to Ross Roberts on the mound. The visiting Skyhawks used a few defensive miscues by the Bears to take a 3-0 lead through three innings of play. Those three runs would prove to be enough as Skyhawk pitcher Christian Watford silenced the Bears' bats working six shutout innings before Travis Tarleton earned the save with a scoreless seventh inning. The double header split brings the Bears record to 6-2 on the season and they will return to action this weekend as the travel to Hattiesburg, MS to open SSAC conference play against William Carey University.
