RABBITTOWN -- The Dawson County girls held off Elbert County 50-48 Tuesday night in the opening round of the Region 8-AA tournament at the East Hall gym.
The Lady Tigers (13-13) trailed early but used a 15-6 third quarter to grab the lead for good. Elbert County (13-13) pulled within four points late but Dawson County was able to maintain its lead at the free throw line hitting a perfect 8-of-8 free throws down the stretch.
Carly Gilreath the Lady Tigers with 22 points and four rebounds. Morgan Huber had 10 points and four steals and Sheyenne Seabolt had eight rebounds and three blocked shots for Dawson County.
Dawson County next will take East Hall on Thursday in the quarterfinals.
in other girls action at the 8-AA tournament, Banks County knocked off Jefferson 52-45 and will take on North oconee in the quarterfinals. Also, Hart County whipped Fannin County 51-35. the Lady Bulldogs next will take on Rabun County.
