Amedi, Stephens move on to STAR student district competition

GAINESVILLE - STAR students for the Hall County School System and the Gainesville area schools were revealed at a luncheon Tuesday hosted by the Gainesville Kiwanis Club.

Alind Amedi of Flowery Branch High School was named the STAR student for the Hall County system, posting the highest SAT score of the six STAR students in the system. Also, Cody Stephens of Gainesville High was honored as the student with the highest SAT score among STAR students at GHS, Lakeview Academy and Riverside Military Academy.

Amedi selected as his STAR teacher Jeremy Purdy, while Stephens chose Cindy Lloyd as his STAR teacher.

The District 2 awards for STAR student and teacher will be presented Thursday, March 29 at 7:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Jasper. District 2 includes Hall, Dawson, Pickens, Gilmer, Fannin, Union, Towns, Rabun, Lumpkin, Habersham, Stephens, and White Counties.

The Kiwanis Clubs also honored the following STAR students and teachers Tuesday:

Chestatee High School: Warren Smith, student and Dana Richardson, teacher

East Hall High School: Kristin Love, student and Karen Weathers, teacher

Johnson High School: Nicole Newsom, student and Kerri Napoleon, teacher

North Hall High School: Taylor Parker, student and Brenda Barger, teacher

West Hall High School: Megan Bassett, student and Rodney Stephens, teacher

Lakeview Academy: Sahara Calderhead, student and Cristian Miguez, teacher

Riverside Military Academy: Alec Ruppenthal, student and Dennis Bagwell, teacher
