Life Chain events held across N. Ga.

UNDATED - For the 25th year running, pro-life advocates lined the streets of communities across North America, including some in North Georgia, in a silent demonstration against abortion.

Life Chain is a silent demonstration held on the first Sunday in October. Participants pray and hold pro-life signs for one hour.

Tony Maturo with St. Michael's Catholic Church, the church that organized the Gainesville event, said participants get varying reactions to their yearly demonstration.

"People that do react will beep their horns and give a thumbs up," said Maturo. "You always have a few that will give what I call the one finger salute, but it's a silent protest, so we just smile and remember that God loves them, too."

About 100 demonstrators lined the intersection of E.E. Butler and Jesse Jewell Parkways for the Gainesville/Hall County event.

Organizers of Life Chain in White County said they had about 60 people show up to stand for an hour around the Cleveland square. White County has held a Life Chain event for the last 12 years.
