Piedmont women's golf finishes sixth at Chick-Fil-A Collegiate

ROME -- The Piedmont College women's golf team finished in sixth place out of 17 schools at the Chick-Fil-A Collegiate Invitational hosted by Berry College at Stonebridge Golf Club Oct. 1-2. The Lady Lions carded a two-day total of 334-321-655, marking the team's best score in five trips to the event.<br /> <br /> The field featured predominately NAIA schools with five participating NCAA Division III teams. Cumberland University won the event with a team score of 313-305--618. PC narrowly missed a top-five result, finishing just three strokes behind Coastal Georgia College.<br /> <br /> Katarina Hodge of Dublin earned All-Tournament honors with a team-best 79-76-155, which was good for a tie for 5th out of 96 golfers. The sophomore shaved three strokes off her first-round score to move up six spots to finish in fifth. <br /> <br /> Cayla Banks of Tyrone rebounded strong from an opening round 90 to post a second-day 75 which marks a career low for the senior. Banks' 90-75--165 was good for a tie for 36th. <br /> <br /> Cortney Boggs of Colbert (81-85--166, t39th), Taylor Mitcham of McDonough (86-85--171, t47th), and Maria Carter of Duluth (88-88--176, t57th) rounded out the scoring for Piedmont.<br /> <br /> The women return to action on Oct. 7-8, when the team travels to Birmingham, Ala., to take part in the Southern Shootout hosted by Birmingham Southern College.
