Memorial service set for former Habersham Co. coach

CORNELIA - A man whose coaching career spanned more than 30 years in Habersham County has died at the age of 75.

Coach Sammy Cunningham of Alto began his 33-year teaching career at Hazel Grove Elementary School. He coached football and basketball on the elementary, middle and high school levels, all in the Habersham County school system.

Cunningham's coaching record includes: football, 156 victories, 70 losses, and nine ties; basketball, 470 wins and 190 losses.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, January 22 at 3:00 p.m. in the auditorium of Habersham Central High School.
