Oakwood police praise eyewitnesses in armored car robbery

By B.J. Williams
OAKWOOD - Eyewitnesses to last week's armored car robbery in Oakwood are getting some praise from investigators.

Investigator Danny Sridej said that the Wal Mart customers who saw the robbery of the Loomis vehicle the morning of January 11 made it easier to catch the three suspects.

"There were two or more witnesses at Wal Mart that were able to assist us with giving us a tag number to the [suspects'] vehicle," said Sridej.

He said the tag number enabled Oakwood police officers, along with the Hall County Sheriff's deputies and Gwinnett County officers to make a quicker stop of the vehicle. The suspects were chased into Suwanee, where their vehicle crashed into a creek. Police apprehended three male suspects shortly after the crash.

Sridej said they are still trying to determine if a fourth suspect was involved in the incident at the store on Mundy Mill Road. He said investigators have reviewed surveillance video.

"It appears that the vehicle was left running when three suspects exited the vehicle prior to the robbery," said Sridej. "So, we are still trying to confirm that there was a driver in the vehicle."

As of Wednesday morning, the three male suspects in the case remain in jail without bond, awaiting a court date, according to Sridej.

He identified the suspects as Antonio Gore, 20, Terry Rivers, 19 and Montez Walker, 28. All three are from Atlanta.

All of the suspects have been charged with robbery by snatching and simple battery, according to Sridej. In addition, Rivers and Walker face obstruction charges. Also, Walker has been charged with giving false statements to officers and ID theft for identifying himself initially to police as Calvin Westbrooks.
