Judge sentences Brunn to life in prison without parole for murder plea

By The Associated Press
CANTON - A maintenance man who once lived in Dahlonega pleaded guilty Tuesday in the death of a 7-year-old Canton girl and was promptly sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Ryan Brunn responded "Yes, sir," when a judge on Tuesday asked if he was pleading guilty to the charges against him.

Brunn was indicted last week in the Dec. 2 killing of Jorelys Rivera. He said he chose Rivera simply because he happened to find a roller skate that belonged to the child, and he used the skate to lure her into the vacant apartment.

The charges against him include murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, cruelty to children in the first degree, aggravated child molestation, false imprisonment, enticing a child for indecent purposes, sexual exploitation of children, making false statements and abandonment of a dead body.

Rivera was reported missing on December 2 and her body was found in a trash dumpster at the apartment complex three days later.
