GAINESVILLE - A pair of brothers from Oakwood have been identified as the passengers in the car that fled from deputies on Interstate 985 Sunday night.
Hall County Sheriff's Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks said 34-year-old Nestor Edgardo Filomeno and 30-year-old Luis Alfredo Filomeno have both been charged with possession of an open container, and one of them faces additional charges in connection with some warrants out of Gwinnett and Hall counties.
Wilbanks said the two did not flee authorities when the high speed chase finally came to an end on Stephens Road off Exit 17.
The driver of the car, 33-year-old Amanda Mary Loggins, did flee from officers on foot once the vehicle stopped and faces a long list of charges.
Wilbanks said a marked patrol unit approached the vehicle with lights on and the siren sounding, but Loggins sped down Athens Highway toward I-985 at speeds higher than 70 mph.
Wilbanks said Loggins then drove onto southbound I-985 where she sped toward Exit 17. Deputies reported she reached speeds in excess of 100 mph before leaving the highway.
Wilbanks said in the interest of public safety, the deputy discontinued the pursuit after the car entered a more congested area. Oakwood Police then spotted the vehicle in their jurisdiction and followed it to an address in the 4800 block of Stephens Road. Wilbanks said Loggins then exited the vehicle and fled on foot. She was arrested a short time later.
Loggins has been charged with DUI of alcohol and drugs, fleeing/attempting to elude, reckless driving, obstruction of an officer, failure to maintain lane, following too close, speeding, running a red light, failure to signal lane change/turn, no proof of insurance and driving while license suspended.
