FLOWERY BRANCH - Flowery Branch Police are awaiting autopsy results on the man that was found dead outside a burning home on Railroad Avenue Monday morning.

Flowery Branch Police Chief Gerald Lanich said they hope to have a preliminary cause of death on Flowery Branch resident Dennis Chadwick sometime Wednesday.

Lanich said the fire was deliberately set but specific details about how it started have also not been released.

Authorities said Chadwick was found in the rear yard of his home in the 5100 block of Railroad Avenue shortly before 4 a.m. after a neighbor called police and firefighters responded.

"With the burn patterns in the floor and the evidence we have found inside the house, again it does appear to be a set fire," said Hall County Fire Marshal Scott Cagle.

Cagle stopped short of saying the fire cause was arson, pending further investigation.

"We can say right now it was definitely a set fire," he said. "For it to be to be arson the owner does it and then claims for insurance, that makes it an arson. If it is your property and you set it on fire and you don't claim insurance it is nothing but an illegal burn."

Cagle added that the house was a total loss. "It was around $110,000 in value from some insurance papers we found on the scene, it was a total loss including structure and contents."
