DAHLONEGA - After a bit of a false start Wednesday, Lumpkin County emergency officials said Friday they are confident their upgraded severe weather notification system is up to speed.
Robbie Hughey, Deputy Chief of Lumpkin County Emergency Services, said the nine new sirens for the county were supposed to be tested Wednesday, but technicians did not have the installation complete in time. He said the testing went off without a hitch Friday.
"At this time, we don't feel that we're going to have any issues with the tornado sirens," said Hughey.
Hughey also said that all sirens will be tested in the future on the first Saturday of each month around noon.
"All of them at one time [will be tested] and it takes about three minutes during the testing period," he said.
Hughey said that Lumpkin County now has a total of 14 tornado sirens installed in its upgraded severe weather alert system.
